Australia’s National AI Plan links AI adoption with responsible governance

Australia launched its National AI Plan on 2 December 2025, connecting AI industry growth, workforce capability and responsible adoption.

The plan sets three broad goals: capture AI opportunities, spread the benefits and keep Australians safe. It describes government direction for infrastructure, domestic capability, skills and risk management. The plan is a policy roadmap, rather than a standalone law imposing identical obligations on every business.

NORMIX practical takeaway: connect each proposed AI use to a business objective, a named owner and proportionate controls. SMEs can start with an AI use register, a short acceptable use policy and staff training. Check applicable privacy, consumer and sector requirements separately before introducing a tool. These are implementation suggestions, not requirements created by the plan.
